PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride. For patches, it's a soft, flexible rubber-like material poured into a custom metal mold, one color at a time, then heat-cured until solid. You get a patch with clean raised edges and crisp lines, and the color doesn't fade the way thread does.

2D vs. 3D PVC Patches: Which One Should You Choose?

The difference comes down to depth.

2D PVC Patches

The design is built in flat, stacked layers. Each element sits at a set height, either raised or recessed, with sharp edges between levels. It's clean, bold and great for logos, text and graphic emblems. 2D is usually the more affordable option.

3D PVC Patches

The mold is sculpted, so surfaces curve and blend instead of stepping. Faces, animals, skulls and mascots look lifelike and almost carved. Choose 3D when you want the patch to feel like a small sculpture.
